“Here I am where am supposed to be” |
Waste starts with us and ends with us
When we buy a product, we also buy any waste associated with the product. We are all responsible for waste, it starts with us and ends with us.
WE'RE THE SOLUTION;
We all create waste and should take personal responsibility in reducing waste sent to landfills. If we adopt a zero-waste 100% recycling attitude we can make a difference in our lifetime for the next generation.
REAL RECYCLING IS IMPORTANT;
We consume to live, we always have and always will. But we want different lifestyles, and our choices dictate our desire and consumption. Waste is directly linked to the basic cycle of human desire and consumption. More things are desired (choice, diversity, evolution, population growth). So more things are consumed and more waste is generated. Consumption is affected by the degree of our desire, and our ability to meet our desire. e.g. Local community stalls (home made) versus international trade (made in China).
Buying as much as we can for as little as we can presents major challenges. Little = not just Kshs. costs, but time and effort, the convenience factor!! It’s easy to consume less and produce less waste (mainly packaging): Control and prioritize our desires, change our perception of inconvenience, and recycle what you can.
RECYCLING IS EASY;
Everyone, regardless of age and upbringing, can become a recycling advocate. By making the right choices and adapting our lifestyles, we can all help make this country waste-free and sustainable.
There are a lot of great ways to recycle here are a few tips to help you start on the right track:-
• Find an accessible area to store your recycling bins. Make it easy to use for all ages.
• Think before you buy! Make a conscious effort to buy products in packaging that can be recycled.
• Reduce your rubbish bin size, start sorting your waste out. You will be amazed how much you have been throwing away!
• Keep a Food waste bin on your bench to stop food scraps and tissues going into the rubbish bin and maybe start up a worm farm in your back yard.
• If a product cant be recycled think of another way you might be able to use it. Think Upcycle...!!
• Make sure all containers are rinsed and lids are removed.
PERSONAL STATEMENT:
"I truly believe that if each of us was to do our own share of positive contributions, small or large to improve the way we live, think and act….and recognize the interconnectedness of all, then the world would undoubtedly change for the better"
