Bin it & Green it – Roadside Dumping Campaign

The campaigns objective is to make the roadsides in Kajiado County cleaner and greener.

With the national government’s ban on the use of polythene papers and huge fines imposed for those found littering from vehicles; Kikao Eco-Wild Conservation Initiative has found it urgent and necessary to take up the challenge to stop the littering on our roadsides as a self-regulatory effort by the motorists. 

A clean environment is good and healthy for all. Throwing waste out of vehicle windows is not only bad road manners, but it makes our roads untidy, unsafe and a health hazard. Kikao Eco-Wild urges you who drive, and your passengers to take part in keeping the roadsides cleaner and greener, by discarding vehicle waste responsibly. The standard method of achieving this is by using a car litter-bin and disposing appropriately.

Greening of our public spaces serves not just as a tool of beautification; but with the massive pollution that characterizes cities, green spaces are essential in purifying or at least reducing the effects of pollution. 

Top Reasons why we littering is a menace:-

• Clogged drains which bring flood risks due to blocked waterways
• Road crash risk when driver steer to avoid hitting debris
• Vehicle and windscreen damage
• Collisions with animals attracted on the roads by litter
• Punctures caused by sharp objects in the refuse
• Dirty Roadsides

HEALTH HAZARD;

Education and Awareness keep our roads clean.

Throwing waste products such as wrappers, plastic cans, among others on the roads and other spaces degrade the environment. Plastics do not decompose therefore leading to degradation of soils and clog drainages. 

What are we doing? 

Plastic bottles make up 45 per cent of the volume of all litter across the country which is not only an eyesore but provides a breeding ground for disease-causing micro-organism.
