At a time when we’re running short on nature, we need to do everything we can to protect it. The call of a bird in the wild or the rustling of an antelope in the brush is priceless - Worth far more than the minerals we could extract or the high-rise building we could develop.
We need to protect our natural world, and that starts with stopping these reckless attacks on species and habitats. We can accomplish all of this by convincing our fellow citizens that we should no longer tolerate sacrificing nature for a little more oil, timber or other economic productions.
We at the Kikao Eco-Wild Conservation Initiative are running campaigns to defend and promote more Wild-Habitats (Environmental Defense - Flora) and Wildlife (Protection of Endangered Species - Fauna).
We live in a world of incredible material abundance, but we’re running short on nature… We want more places where we can hike, bike and jog among trees and wild flowers. We want more mountaintops where we can see nothing but forest below, more rivers that flow wild and free. We want more wildlife in our world, from the Leopard on the ridgeline to the bee in our garden, from the Fox in the forest to the butterfly in our compounds.
“We want and need more of a world so beautiful that we can hardly believe it exists.”
ENVIRONMENTAL DEFENSE: NATURAL HABITATS;
For centuries, we sacrificed nature in our lives for the sake of economic progress. But that’s not a world we have to live in anymore. Nor is it the future our children deserve - especially when we're being told to accept less nature in our lives just so we can produce and consume more stuff we don’t need.
We’ve sacrificed enough nature in our lives and in us, there is a burning desire to protect the places we love - We want more nature in our lives.
At our best, we as a people have acted out of a deep desire to protect the places we love, both those that are close to home as well as those that define our country and our people, from the Coastal regions to the Lake regions, from the Central region to the Northern regions of the immense nation of Kenya.
Conservation of resources is the NEED of the HOUR and not just a story or speech. We need to practice it and make it part of our life implicitly. That’s why Kikao Eco-Wild Conservation Initiative is running campaigns for more open spaces, more wild places and more wildlife.
ENDANGERED SPECIES – PROTECTION OF WILDLIFE;
We share our planet with countless incredible creatures. There are so many, too many to name iconic animal species native to Africa that are now endangered or threatened - Near extinction. It’s up to us to protect such endangered species and the habitats they call home. We need to promote the expansion of wildlife corridors. We need to keep habitats large and whole to give wildlife even more space.
In the long-term, we need to introduce bills and promote policies that protect endangered species to include protections that kick in when a species’ numbers begin to fall, rather than waiting until their very survival is threatened to act.
None of this will be easy. Some opponents will push in the opposite direction because they hold different values. Some will oppose us out of self-interest. But it’s up to us to stand up for the Ecosystem, the Environment, our special places and all the life they support.
- Put the environment first. The value of nature is immeasurable, derived not only from the resources it provides but from its inherent beauty. The preservation & conservation of the environment through Education and Public participation - We’re working to shift more hearts and minds over to this point of view.
- Take a strategic approach. We must think big and act boldly, but we recognize that progress comes one step at a time. Our focus is on making a difference in public policy and in our lives and our environment, not just making a statement.
- Build on what works. Advocate for policies that will result in more protections for open spaces, wild places and wildlife at every level.
- Work together. We work to unite people from all across the political spectrum around protecting and preserving nature. Whether its hikers and campers in Mt. Kenya who want wild places to explore or religious leaders in our places of worship who want all of us to be good stewards of the Earth. From our advocates in the Senate, Members of Parliament or State build coalitions. Private sectors, Professionals, Business owners, Educators and people from all walks of life… Our organizers and canvassers engage literally hundreds of thousands of people.
